Dwight Howard brought it all in game 5. He brought another 20/20. After going way up for a block he took out fellow teammate Courtney Lee. Finally, he threw a nasty elbow, which just might take him out of game 6.
Let’s talk about elbow first. I’m extremely curious to see what the NBA does. I’m a Magic fan, but in my opinion Dwight Howard should be suspended for 1 game and sit out game 6. I love this guy and I think he’s a class act, but I don’t want to see any player getting hurt by unneccecary physical play. I’m good with hard fouls and making guys earn it from the stripe, but don’t cross the line. Ok, I hated the elbow, but I loved the intensity behind it. Normally I’d say it’s a done deal that Howard is suspended, but does the NBA and the networks want to run the risk of the Magic losing game 6 without Howard and potentially game 7. There aren’t too many big name stars playing in the east and with the Celtics struggling, do they really want to see Celtics vs. 76ers? Everyone would prefer Celtics vs. Magic and then the marque match up of Magic vs. Cavs in the eastern finals. My guess is David Stern gives Howard a 1 game suspension, but we’ll see.
In case you missed it, Dwight Howard brought his A game and just dominated. 24 points and 24 rebounds, plus 2 blocks. Dalembert brought his 4 points and 9 rebounds to the game. Dalembert, don’t bring Kool Aid to a grown man’s party, damn boy! By the way the Magic won 91 to 78.
Dwight also brought down another elbow, but this time it was Motumbo style, because he took out his teammate; Courtney Lee. It was brutal and Lee was taken to the hospital for observation. Check out the video and see how high Howard goes up to block the shot. The guy almost left the building. At some point during the flight he rests his left hand on the backboard and then reaches a few feet above the rim to block the shot. That’s the good news, because he came down like The Undertaker from the top ropes after the block and put an elbow down on Lee’s forehead.
I’m not into physics, but I think the formula is Force = Mass * Acceleration. Last time I checked Howard has some mass, I’m guessing he was accelerating quickly on the way down, so that must have created a lot of force. I hope Lee is ok, because he’s been giving the Magic good minutes and with no Howard, Lee and a gimpy Hedo for game 6, it looks like it will go 7 games.
